Natural gas is an important commodity in many countries. Natural gas has the advantages of being a clean, cost-effective, accessible fuel anywhere in the world and plays an important role in achieving environmental and climate goals. Today, the global gas industry is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by the emergence of shale gas sources in the United States and the rapid growth of LNG, especially in the emerging gas markets in Asia.
Indonesia faces several challenges in developing its natural gas industry. The increase in domestic gas consumption driven by increasing economic growth is accompanied by declining gas production, limited gas infrastructure, and uncertain regulations. The use of domestic gas is considered to have a vital role in the future, especially LNG in responding to rapid economic growth and achieving a cleaner national energy mix portfolio. Almost everyone involved in the natural gas industry needs to understand the basics of natural gas from a technical and economic perspective, which is a core part of making decisions in the natural gas industry. Pertamina has an important role in the gas industry, especially LNG as a primary substitute to oil and coal. In order to increase the domestic LNG business and to face the future global LNG business transformation, Pertamina needs to equipped its human resources with the required skills through the Fundamentals of LNG Development Program.
